The ENC28J60-I ML device is compliant with all IEEE 802.3 specifications.
The ENC28J60-I ML device restricts incoming packets by combining multiple packet filtering schemes. It also provides an internal DMA module for fast data throughput and hardware-assisted checksum calculation for various network protocols.
The ENC28J60-I ML device communicates with the host controller via interrupt pins and SPI with clock frequencies up to 20 MHz. Using the ENC28J60-I ML device requires only two pulse transformers and a few passive components to connect a microcontroller to Ethernet.
The ENC28J60-I ML device consists of seven main functional blocks:
1. An SPI interface used as a communication channel between the host controller and ENC28J 60.
2. Control register for controlling and monitoring ENC28J60.
3. Dual port RAM buffer for receiving and sending packets.
4. Arbiter that controls access to RAM buffers when requested from DMA, transmit and receive blocks.
5. Explain the bus interface for data and commands received through the SPI interface.
6. A MAC (Media Access Control) module that implements IEEE 802.3 compliant MAC logic.
7. PHY (physical layer) module, which encodes and decodes analog data on the twisted pair interface.
